What is Facta?
FACTA is the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act. Signed by President Bush on Dec. 4, 2003
Every consumer can get a copy of his or her credit report each year at www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling 877-322-8228
Merchants must leave off all but the last five digits of a credit card number on electronically printed store receipts.
Employers must destroy information derived from a consumer credit report before discarding it.
consumers who suspect identity theft need to notify only one of the three credit reporting services to set off a nationwide fraud alert.
Mortgage lendersmust provide the credit score they use to to determine a loan's interest rate, whether the loan is approved or denied. As A Merchant What Does FACTA Mean For Me?
One of the ways FACTA tries to prevent identity theft before it occurs is by requiring merchants to leave all but the last five digits of a credit card number off store receipts. This law will make sure that slips of paper that most people throw away do not contain their credit card number, a key to their financial identities. Learn more here.
